swapping rear-ends

Alright, so I have a 2wd 1988 150 with the 3.55 axle. That's great and all on the road, but if I need to go up a moist grassy hill, I just spin and go back down again.(not to give a sob story or anything, but it almost got stuck because I had to move over and stop for a fire truck)

So I've decided to switch it with a used locking rear with the same gears, and I was wondering how difficult it would be, or if there are any modifications needed for the swap.

Appreciate the input.

Just get a traction device and have a shop install it.
You will be on the road in no time.

Link for you for some input.

1822 - Richmond Gear - Ford 8.8" 10 Bolt 31 Spline 7/8" Shaft Open Diff Lock-Right | Tellico 4x4

This may not be the proper unit for your truck, but it will give you an idea of your options.

if you have the whole locking rear end housing and everything just jack up the truck and loosen a few bolts and out with the old in with the new. now if you are trying to get in there. take it to a shop

The swap whole rear is easy but LS or a rear with after market locker r hard to find. Luck is u have 3:55 which is common.
