If I'm not mistaken you can get one and just plug it into the harness if you have cab lights. If you don't have cab lights you would have to get the harness and the computer to mount it up there. Could be wrong so maybe someone knows for sure. I do know when I put my cab lights on there was a prong to plug in the overhead computer I just don't have one.
Ya if you had bought the factory harness, it has a prong in the middle to plug the computer in and then it connects in the passenger foot panel to a factory plug there.
Behind the passenger side kick panel there is a plug for the cab lights.
I installed an overhead console in my old truck. I have some pics in my gallery. I got it off of ebay from a guy that sells kits to retro fit a console into trucks that didn't come with one. His ebay name is ol bird I believe. He includes everything you need except the wiring. It only had the compass and temp sensor though. It wasn't the one that reads mpgs and what not.
Take a look at the scangage, looks like one of the FTE vendor's has a nice mount that fits over the rearview mirror. Much more info than the console, and it can read codes too.
Justin, good thread. I had wondered the same thing. Keep us posted if you get the job done.
farmdad: Justed looked on ebay and they have them on there but they are expensive. I am going to run to a local junkyard and look for one. Will keep you updated.
Just for your info the only thing that is good for well besides storage space is the compas and the temp? The fuel mileage is worthless to look at.. the chip screws the readings all up... I think mine has read like 60 mpg... LOL...

Well then I guess there is no reason to put it in then.

I just figured I would throw that out there. The only thing I like is the temp gauge for when it gets cold... but yeah the dang mpg setting or the "lie o meter" just doesn't give good readings...LOL..
Look at the scanguage II
Intake Air Temp
you can teach it the correct MPG for your truck, plus several other things. not as pretty as the overhead, but more info.
