Emergency Brake

I have a 1999 Ford F550 7.3 Powerstroke Diesel. I have a problem with the truck dying whenever I release my emergency brake. It is a manual. Do you know what this could be caused by?

forgive me if I'm wrong, maybe its different on a 550.But the e-brake is a mechanical device.Comprised basically of a cable run from a lever to the rear brake drum.Nowhere at all is it involved with engine function.therefore I dont see how it could efect the operation of the engine.I dont mean to sound like an ash, just trying to understand this.
Edit:just noticed you are new to the forum. So let me welcome you.

I understand what you are saying, I thought the same way but, It only happens when the e brake is released. This is why it's so hard to figure out.

Sounds like a loose or dirty connection on the PCM or a loose connection with a chip. The 'thud' of releasing the parking brake is likely vibrating something loose.

E-brake on manual tranny is interconnected to PCM, at least the switch to turn on e-brake warning light. A manual tranny truck wil not high idle if e-brake is not engaged or e-brake lamp is burnt out. What this has to do with your problem I do not know, but there is a relationship between e-brake and pcm.

Edit: Joe may be onto something. When releasing e-brake hold your foot on it and let it release slowly and see what happens.

Good catch Robin.Having an auto I would not have known that.Maybe it is just that little e-brake switch.Possibaly take the switch off and clean the contacts on it.Just one little screw holds it there.

Our ambulance with an auto tranny won't high idle without the PARKing brake either. Good thought there too.......

I have a 550 and the parking brake is the same as the little brothers.
I also think that the thud of the brake lever releasing is shaking something electrical.
I would begin my investigation in that area.

The PCM (Powertrain Control Module) is located in that box just to the left of the clutch pedal.
You unplug it from under the hood by unscrewing the single screw in the middle of the plug, 6mm bolt with a 10mm six point bolt head right in the middle. The whole thing will walk out when you unscrew the bolt.
Go inside and unmount it from the screws after that.
I'm more suspicious of the fuse panel inside the truck right next to the PCM. But it is helpful to remove the PCM to gain easier access.
