Did some troubleshooting work on my truck and here's what I've did/found.
Relocated the engine to firewall ground from between the 4th/5th Intake Runners, to #1. Engine seems to be happier also, while giving more room to work.
Pulled the Instrument Cluster and verified that all the circuitry is good. So it's definantly in the wiring/inputs now.
As for issues I'm having:
Coolant Temp Gauge raises about 3/8" with key OFF, but bottoms out with key ON, ACC, etc.
Oil Pressure Gauge inoperable. No movement with key ON or OFF.
Still no Tachometer movement. I did notice a wire going into a plug near the coil that looked like it was pulled out.
So I'm slowly weeding crap out...
This may be a dumb idea, but if your oil is moved mechanically then your pressure gauge should read zero unless the engine is actually running...regardless of key position, correct?

Not quite. The hand will recognize the voltage difference, and you'll see it "Bump" a bit.

I tried that once... Not only did it result in a mess in my truck cab, it just looked "Off". No real place to put one, that it's not in the way either.
1996 f150 2wd inline 6 Was driving 45 mph, heard a weird whoosh followed by a whine in tbe power steering pump, it blew out a fairly new lower pitman shaft seal on the steering box due to overpressure. So that led to doing a new seal, a napa rebuilt power steering pump, 4 new ball joints, a tie rod end, new tensioner pulley and belt, and greasing the wheel bearings. Rather than the ****ty prestone ps fluid I had been using which I think helped my problems along I put type F trans fluid and 25% lucas, my steering is smoother and quieter than ever. Mulling over axle bushings radius arms and radiator support now. Definitely a new rear gas tank + bed rail repair + wire wheeling and painting the rear frame pre-winter.
bought some carb cleanner, so now looking for that wire brish of mine, then going to try and pull the truck into the garage today and get the EGR off and clean it good...at least thats whats planned when I get home.
well I checked over the front end and I either have a outer wheel bearing out or inner is dose not feel like a ball joint. and the inner tie rod end on the passanger side has a little play and its worrying me
