Engine building temperature

Im building my 532 in my garage. Would you say I am safe using my micrometers, bore gauge ect ect measuring clearances as long as the tools are the same temperature as the engine its self? I keep all my tools in the garage also. And its 35-40ish outside.. would it make any difference to wait a few more weeks till its 65-70ish outside?

I don't think it would make any difference, as long as they are the same temp.

but If it was me I'd whet just so it was a little comfier temp wise, unless you have a heated garage. jmo

If there were any concerns in that area, we wouldn't be able to build engines in Texas after May without AC. I'm tempted to put a micrometer in the freezer and see what the dif would be between a measurement taken at 32 compared to the 80 it is today. I'd bet you couldn't even measure the dif. There is probably as much slop between tools as the dif a 6" piece of steel is going to expand or contract in 50 degrees.
