Just picked up an 04 SC350 Dually with 40,000 miles. The book advises using 5w20 motor oil. I plan on going to a full synthetic oil. Do most of you use 5w20. In past I have always used 10w30 in all my veh with good luck. Will be using truck towing approx 10,000 trailer. Most of towing will be from Tx into mtns where majority of time will be spent. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Incidently was going to pick up a new Duramax when I found this trk. Price of diesel makes them more unattractive all the time.
Use 5 20, I am running Quaker state 4x4 max torque ( or somthing like that, the stuff is like fricken water its so thin) i change it every 6000 its full synthetic, but if you stay with petroleum based stick with it you dont want to be switching back and fourth.(which i like better but have heard horror stories about from using QS)
Run 5w-20. I have 5w-20 MC oil in my 04' now. I was running nothing but synthetic but I think I'm going to switch over to Motorcraft oil due the the MC oil being inexpensive and an extremely good oil. I change oil every 3k regardless of oil used and honestly I have seen no benefit in running synthetic unless you live in areas with very severe cold weather. The Motorcraft oil is semi-synthetic. Also use MC Fl-820s filters regardless of the oil you use. MC filters are the best out there.

FWIW I heard in the Oil section of FTE that Quacker State is discontinuing Q Torque oil. They were selling it at Advanced auto stores for $.98 a quart to get rid of it.
Just use the 5w20 in either dino or sync. It is a hard adjustment to go with such thin oil...until you understand these Modular engines. The 5w20 yields the best mpgs...and emissions.
As for Brand...I just use Motorcraft. It is so inexpensive (at Wally World) for such good oil...and the filters are second to none.
Keep in mind when towing with your V10 2v engine...that she will want to rev. So revving in the 3500-4500 rpm range is no sweat...and can run there all day long.
Motorcraft 5w-20 semisynthetic and Motorcraft FL-820-S, Oil changed using the towing schedule every 5000 miles ("normal driving" every 7500 miles). I have tried synthetics but can't tell any difference in MPG or otherwise. Extended oil change is the only reason to go synthetic and 5000 miles is long enough. Using the motorcraft oil and filter makes it about $20 for an oil change.

Thanks for the heads up, you ever heard that QS dino oil has enough parifane wax in it to eventually gum up the heads and stuff? I had a buddy that blew his 350 Chevy and when they toke it apart they found that crap every were and his mechanic asked him if he used QS and said that there know for that.

What he said. The MC oil is a blend and is very good, my local Wal Mart stocks the MC filter and oil.
You can get away with running 5w-30 if you want (Earlier V10s actually called for 5w-30) Don't run 5w-40 its a thick 40 weight oil. If you'd take a look inside the heads of a modular motor you will see that the camshafts run on machined aluminum surfaces on the cylinder head, no bearings or anything. There is only one oil hole per journal. The thin 5w-20 works good at getting in between the surfaces and keeping them lubed.
