Is it just me or does this system do a poor job? When its 85-95 degrees or more, i can set my CC at 70 degrees and have the vents blow ICE COLD air all day long and keep me comfortable. When the temp is around 74 outside and a little humid, 70 degrees on the CC doesnt do much of anything, the air is significantly warmer and the only way to get cold air is to drop the temp to 65 or 60...which works ok. My wife's 2002 climate control will freeze your a** off regardless of the outside temperature. Is this just a function of the climate control algorithm in the newer trucks or what? Its wierd, if the temp outside is 60 degrees and i set the thermostat in the truck at 60 degrees, the air coming out is significantly warmer than if its 80 degrees and i set the thermostat at 60. There is nothing i can do manually to change this.
Sounds like it's doing what it's "supposed" to do. As the cabin temp gets close to the preset temp, it starts mixing hot and cold air together and varying the fan speed. At 70 degrees, set at 70 degrees, it will blow approximately 70 degree air and the fan will slow down. The system measures the air temp and the sensor is in the "shade" inside the instrument panel. If the sun is bright, you will feel the radiant heat coming through all of the glass. If the vehicle is a dark color, the effect is even greater. Try setting it at 65, it will feel more comfortable.
There seem to be a lot of complaints about climate control on 2005+ trucks. You're probably correct that the operating parameters were changed at one point since 2002. I've never found a good explanation for it though.
