Squirely Ignition

The Truck in question is a 1985 F-250 with a 351W engine. The truck does not appear to have any spark, but when you turn the key to the off position, there's a slightly delayed spark that you can hear when the coil wire to distributor is off of the coil. Also, when trying to start it, it does not seem to attempt starting when normally cranking, but will sometimes give one fire when you turn the key to the off position. Is this a problem with the ignition key? If so, is there an easy way to bypass the ignition switch (from under the hood) if that is the problem? A used coil and used ignition module were both plugged in to try. Both parts were removed from a known working truck a few yers ago, and I kept them stored in the garage. Thanks for any help!

Before you rewire anything, I think I'd check out the pickup coil in the distributor. It sounds to me as if the coil is saturating but not being told by the ignition module to discharge (through the coil wire) until you shut the ignition off, at which time it will anyway as the primary field collapses. This is the spark you hear when you shut the switch off. If the ignition module isn't getting a signal from the pickup coil, it won't fire the coil.
