I just received my gt40 longblock and I am getting ready to put it in. I was just wondering what plugs to put in the heads. I have been told that they are the same as the stock heads. Although some people say they take different plugs...
I do believe it is a different plug. You can call the Ford motorsport tech line.I would also check with a parts store, the GT-40P heads came stock on the explorer 5.0.You could also post on the corral.net.Alot of the mustang guys run those heads.
Got a question for you.... didn't you put a set of roller rockers on your 302? If you don't mind my asking, what did you have to do (if anything) to get the valve covers to clear? Did the stock ones work, or did you have to run taller ones and a spacer for the upper intake? Did you need to modify any of the baffles?
On the GT40P plug question, I believe you'd get what you want by asking for plugs for an Explorer with the 302, as mentioned in the last post.
I did not got with roller rockers because of what you said. I was afraid of them not clearing the valve covers.... I infact did go to the parts store and asked for the explorer 5.0 plugs and they were the same ones as a normal 5.0. ????????? What gives!
Maybe I can help, Only the later 5.0 explorers had the P heads. To be on the safe side tell your saleman you have a 99 explorer with a 5.0. Or tell them you want an autolite #764, they can cross that number to motorcraft or whatever you prefer. The 764 is what the P head explorers calls for. I have double checked the 764 in my own P heads.
Regular 5.0 plugs aren't even close to being threaded right. Just for your info the 764 is also the same plug the modular engines take (triton 4.6). Alot of later design ford engines use this same plug right down to the same heat range.
