Trailer light problem
I have a 97 F150. It has the factory tow package with the electric brake hookup and the adapter for trailers without brakes. When I connect my boat or my utility trailer the left taillight comes on and stays on. The brake lights and other taillight works properly. I have check the connections on the socket and nothing seems amiss. I check the voltage at the adapter and there is 12 volts dc all the time. I pulled the fuse and the voltage goes away. Any suggestions??????

At what pin(s) are you seeing 12 VDC all the time?
Is it the running lamp ot brake/turn signal that is coming on?
What fuse are you pulling?

I am using a factory 4-pin plug adapter that plugs into the round socket that a trailer with electric brakes would plug into. I am getting 12 volts on the center female plug. The light that is coming on is the left running light. I am pulling the #2 fuse in the mini fuse block that is under the hood mounted on the left fender.

If you are using a light adapter from round RV to flat 4, one of two things are wrong. Eithe the RV plug is miswired (easy to do) or the flat 4 is bad. I would bet that someone used the color code on the back of the RV plug rather than the function.

RV Standard color code
#1 Ground White White
#2 brakes Blue Blue
#3 Tail Green Brown
#4 Pos.battery Black --------
#5 L.Turn. Red Yellow (Gn & orange for ford)
#6 R. Turn Brown Green (Or & blue for ford)
#7 Aux. Yellow ---------
