Sheared Pin

Hey all,

I sheared the pin in the rear end of my 94 F150. It looks like the bolt that holds the pin in place backed the whole way out because i found it intact at the bottom of the rear end in the oil, but the pin was in 2 pieces. The 2 gears that were on the pin look fine but they were on the bottom also

Can i just put another pin in and be done or do I need to remove the posi unit to do that
I am able to get another rear axle and just do a whole swap but i would need to change over all my brakes and lines and all that and it seems like a lotta work.

I need to get this done as cheap as possible because i have very little funds

Thanks for reading

Yikes!! If that came out while he vehicle ws moving I'd have a hard time believing it didn't damage the carrier

I had one back out and the pin started moving. It never broke until it had grooved the cover deep enough that one day on its rotation it caught the edge of the cast housing and boy was that a sudden stop, and everything inside looked like a grenade had just gone off.

Be sure to flush the housing out if you reuse it. And be sure that the holes in the carrier are not enlarged or elongated in one direction. They should be a close fit on the new pin. a tiny bit of lock-tite on the pin will keep it in better too. let it set up before adding the lube.

I am getting a new pin tomorrow and trying it out
To clarify what exactly happened i was backing up my driveway about 10 miles an hour when it came to a sudden stop, i wasn't sure what happened i thought i broke something in the tranny so i figured why not try 4x4 i put it in 4 low slowly let out the clutch then... Bang truck moved freely. and that is where i am at now.
I can move the truck if i engage 4x4 i alreaqdy removed the broked pin and the gears that were riding on it so i am not worried about any more damage. The pin hole looks good and there are no teeth missing or anything i guess i will find out if everything is alright when i put the new pin in

no thats not what they are saying. the carrier is junk. get a new one. my truck spit its pin pulling out of a parkinglot, to come to find out, it destroyed everything inside, and i mean everything. so to have a $20 pin come loose agian because you cant look for cracks in the carrier and do this the right way isnt. i almost want to put money on it that it has hairline fractures. and if this truck is a limted slip and the spring isnt there it will cause you a set of issues i dont think your ready to deal with
