What would you do first?

Hi everyone! My first post here and I have a couple of questions. I have a 02 Excursion that I've had about a year and I was looking to start to do some upgrades. I mostly tow either a small trailer with atv's or my 30ft travel trailer(6,300-6,800lbs). What does anyone reccomend? What have you guys tried? What was a waste of your time? I was looking at a 4in exhaust(Banks or MBRP), an intake and maybe a tuner.
Any help you could give a diesel novice would be great

Intake, exaust Gauges then chip in that order.

For and intake i would go with the 6637 filter from fleetfilter.com

I have a silverline exaust but they MBRP, and MKO are good also..the banks is over priced.

As far as gauges go autometer, isspros are good jsut dont get the glowshift.

and the tuner I would go with a Dp-Tuner or a TW(Tony wildman) since they can custom tune them to your truck.

i have learned this the hard way..if your buying an aggresive chip, that you plan on having turned up often..upgrading the trans would be the first thing i would do...shift ki, valve body and a tc...i learned it the hard way...two stock trans gone..on the third!

I didnt follow these tips so I learned the hard way, been about 4 months since I got my gauges and still havent had them in yet...work keeps comin up...

also a VB would be a good thing to do at the same time as you get a chip, those guys I named can tune the chip for the VB.

I have not seen the DP tuner. Read some posts and everyone seems to like it. How much? I'm not looking to go crazy, yet. Are those famous last words?

First things first, if you go with a new exhaust system(Silverline is a good choice), get a S/S system and then get yourself a intake system which doesn't have to cost a lot. many guys here have installed a 6637 NAPA filter with very little modifications, or go the expensive route and buy an AFE stage II intake. I bought the BANKS MONSTER exhaust system for big bucks, but would have rather spent less on a comparable system and spent extra money on my gaues, also BANKS, they are good but pretty plain looking. I also bought a DIABLOSPORT Predator programmer that works well, but I want to get a DP tuner chip that I can adjust on the fly.

DEF make sure to get gauges!!! PYRO, BOOST, auto-tranny temp (if so equipped) Volt meter, engine oil temp,

Good luck!

A 30' bumper pull!!! That has to suck. I have been looking into making my canoe trailer a gooseneck. Just kidding, but I really will never pull a real trailer again by the bumper.
Check my sig for what Kris said he would do. He is dead nuts on. I think the exhaust was my best mod to date. (Next to the DP Tuner of course, we are talking nuts and bolts mods )

Chris, I would make Kris install those gauges with (read for) you. That reminds me, I have to send you the UPS sticker so I can do my uncles exhaust for him...I think I have only forgotten that for about a month.

I forgot, get your Silverline/MBRP exhaust off eBay and don't pay a penny over $400 for it. There are a lot of good deals out there, I saved myself over $500 on mods so far by being patient and waiting till the right thing came along.
The other thing is Banks sucks (for the money you pay for it) Stick with FTE and you will get A LOT more bang for your buck. You have to save it where you can so you can spend it later!

Like I said...my canoe and snowmobile trailer is about all I would pull from the bumper. When I have to haul cattle I use my buddies 16' stock trailer and I can't believe how crappy that pulls compared to my gn. The worst is when I the cows start moving

I am going to have to call your teachers. You must not have enough homework You have been a busy guy on the boards tonight. Less homework bc it is the end of the quarter??? That just means tests! Double
