Grinding from front driver-side wheel
When I go around a bend, tight bend at that, at low speeds, under acceleration(and sometimes not), I get this grinding sound, for about 25% of the wheel revolution. The situation is consistent with a bad CV joint on a fwd vehicle, however the sound is not.
I was going to jack it up this weekend and replace the axle, as well as the little thing that makes my AWD not work. Some little magnetic actuator from what I've been able to determine. I also plan to get all 4 wheels off the ground so i can put the truck in gear and see if the front tires are not moving, just to make sure I'm not in 4wd.
Also, last time I had it in 4LO, I couldn't get it out. I turned the switch back to 4HI, backed up 10ft, all the tricks, but it wouldn't go out. Finally I moved it to park, then reverse, and it popped out, but with a horrible grinding sound. Any ideas? 4HI has not given me any problems, so I've been using that.
As far the 4Lo shift. YOu should have been in neutral with your foot on the brake when playing with it. It changed in gear, kind of like missing the clutch and hitting the stick anyways. 4Lo will just about always grind if you try to switch it and then shift the gears.
