I'm new here.
Anybody ever change seal/bearing on the rear output shaft of a NP think its #205 transfer case.
'79 Ford F-250 400 cu.in.
Can those be changed by just pulling the yoke - unbolting tailshaft housing, think it has 6 bolts? Or, the unthinkable of having to drop it down and out?
Its married to the tranny. Gotta be 500 lbs!
Any reply appreciated.
not as heavy as you think. maybe the t case weighs 200 pounds if that, there is'nt a seal on the tailshaft, it just inserts into the input on the t case directly. You can replace the housing seals by supporting the transmission, and unbolting those six bolts, then pulling the t case away from the trans.

Reason: addition
OK I'm confused.......
I have gear oil leaking out around the rear shaft on my transfer case, where the r
driveshaft yoke is attached. Not between the bolt on tailshaft housing and the case.
I'm thinking the bearing is going bad, causing the shaft to eat that seal.
Plus, the tranny is attached to the transfer case. Is it possible to split and drop just the transfer case?
Yes, you can drop just the t case, regarding the seals on the rear driveshaft output, i dont know, i haven't taken this apart before. someone else will know.
