What good is all this Horsepower if you can't use it?!

OK, maybe I don't have that much HP but my truck sure runs 100 times better then it did 3 years ago-thanks to you all!!!! Now, I know that I'm pushing my truck with a 12K 5er (probably 14K after we load it) but the other day I pushed it harder then I ever have and I've been over the rocky mountains. Thanks to a 30 to 40 mph head wind and a hilly road, I shifted according to the egt's. On the downhills I would take it up to 80mph with the pyro gauge at a constant 1,200 degrees. On the uphills I still would hold it on 1,200* until I would downshift to 3rd and down to 50mph. You guys get the idea. What I'm trying to say is that my truck could do a lot better if I would ignore the damn gauge and just go for it until the pistons melt. I just feel that I'm not able to use what I've built up but the egt's is like a governor on the engine. The trans doesn't get hot and I've installed a intercooler. What else kepts the egt's down so I can use my horsepower?? I'm just venting and I sure appreciate being able to 'share'!! Glenn

Probably your superchips are what killing you... I don't know a tuner that's known for lower EGT's. Talk to Tony Wildman, tell him what your towing, what your weeing for EGT's and he'll burn you some programs that will get you some lower EGT's and more power!

H2O injection. I'll be looking into exhaust cooling myself later this year. My downpipe is in the mail!

he has an intercooler!

let her breathe some... can you open the intake/exhaust any? i know a larger turbo will allow more cool air through thus helping keep cooler. i know you can run water/meth injection and that really helps keeps things on the cooler side.

X2 on the H2O injection for the hills.
A waste gated housing on the turbo helps to limit boost and help with the egt.
The 1.00 in your sig is not helping the egt. 14K load at 80 is haulin the mail!

Yep I agree with Bill. With your injectors the 1.0 A/R exhaust housing is hurting your temps. Your programmer may not be helping much either. I would put the stock 1.15 housing back on and look into a Tony wildman or DP-tuner chip

Thanks guys, I really appreicate the input! I didn't realize the 1.0 housing was hurting me, I really like it for getting going. Nitrous, didn't know that would help with the egt's. Yea, I know I need a better chip, programer, etc. My DP is 3 1/2", I don't think I'll bother with a 4", I had to do to much 'body work' as it was for the 3 1/2". Now, the H20 is interesting, considered it a while back! Thanks, glenn

I just swapped a superchip out for a DP and the difference is day and night.

The super chip seemed to be tuned only for a stock truck.

Jodi set up my dp for my exact truck. Significant milage increase, (from under 500km - over 600km per fill, empty). Easier starting, better idling, lower temps, and smoother power all the way through my rpm range. I used to choke out at 3k with the superchip, where as now I dont.

Jodi also does high altitude tow tunes which should help with temps.

My tuner looks like this,
40hp tow
40hp tow high alt
60hp tow
60hp tow high alt
80 hp econo
100hp performance
140hp aggressive
1100rpm idle

The high idle is one of my favorites. I work in the oil patch in northern Canada. I was getting pretty tired of the sawed off 2x4 idle switch

Well, I had shipping to canada and all that, but somewhere around 7 something.

You can build your chip on his site and it will give you the exact cost from there.

Ya, i'd definately check into snow performance's water/methanol injection kit.
Snow Performance: Products
Thats specific for our trucks... I like the Stage 3, but definately costs $...
The controller on the stage three monitors boost and EGT's to keep them in the safe range AND give you more power.
However, they do call it "chemical intercooling" so i dont know how much more it will add considering you have a intercooler... something to research.

It should still have the same effect.

The only caution I'd make with meth or NoS is to put a manual valve in the system and shut it off when the system isnt being used.

If a solenoid sticks without you being aware of it, you can hydrolock your motor.

I've had one friend with meth that had his solenoid stick. Luckily he was driving at the time, so he was able to catch it with no problems.
