rearends

And my question are these. i have been told that the early rearends(like in the 64 fords) are not as good as the later axles because of how the axle tubes were attached to the centersection. somthing about the axle tubes arent insertednto the centersection but butt welded and the later ones, the tube is inserted into the centersection and then welde.this true and if it is, when did they start attaching the axle tubes better. does it fall with in that yr span for a direct bolt in??? also, wat yr did they go to the wider drums on the rear. and i am asking bout the ford 9" no other rearend.
Modifications were made to the tubes and to the rear stamping to add structural strength. You really need to work hard to tear one up..
Most rodders like the smooth look of the 57 to 64 cases. A look Currie duplicates today with aftermarket housings.

Bigger brakes (drums) were added in 68 and can be swapped all the way back to the beginning. The overall length was changed in 73 and used until dropped in 86.
Mind you the 9" was used in cars and trucks and there are overall lengths all over the place.
