dash board lights

LAST EDITED ON 04-Oct-01 AT 08:49 PM (EST)[p]"98 F-150" Has anyone had any problems with their dash lights going out. I lost them at night and they all went at once. The only light to stay on was the radio light and that went to full brightnes. On top of this I have no parking lights at all, .......but the emergency lights still work. I suspect this is a bad light switch. Anybody have any answers.
Thanks DA

In the old days, the taillights were on the same circut as the dash lights. check the taillight fuse perhaps.

Sounds to me like a bad switch. If the dash lights go off AND the radio goes full bright, then your truck thinks you don't have your lights turned on.

As the previous post says... replace the light switch. It's junk. The giveaway is the radio light going to full brightness. These light switches today are pure garbage. I used to be in Ford parts for years and we replaced light switches by the tons. They are just barely adequate to do the job and the wires going to them are the smallest guage possible. This generates heat thru resistance and wipes the switches out. I've had people come in with a melted blob that used to be a light switch. That's how hot they can get!!
