Smile Tailgate End

I seem to have a problem that I hope others may answer. I installed my new tailgate along with new chrome tailgate chains on my 1950 F1. It really made a great improvement! However the first link (which is crome) of the tailgate chain is a little too long. Of couse it fits over the tailgate end but it allows too much "play" so the tailgate doesn't fit snugly. I have thought of different things but I wonder if some of you have experienced this and what is your remedy. Thanks---

I think the easiest thing to do would be to add some rubber sealing material along the edge of the tailgate where it meets the bed. Maybe an old door seal or something along those lines. Heck, I bet you could find some peel and stick stuff at either the local parts store or the local hardware store.
