tow hooks?

hi,

i bought some tow hooks for the front of my 95 f250 4x4, so that people dont have to search around under my truck when i need a tug when we're 4x4 ing. the problem is i cant figure out where to put them, it says to put them on the frame, but if i do that they are hidden under the bumper and kinda in accessible... any thoughts?

On the frame as close to the bumper brackets as you can get is pretty much the best you can do as far as I know, unless you are into fabing things, in which case you could get a piece of steel and cut it into sort of a T shape that briges both frame rails and protrudes from infront of the bumber.

It really depends on how serious you are about wheelin'.

im not a into fabbin at all, if i put them on the frame rails a tow strap will end up rubbing against the bumper and i was thinking that was bad cuz it cld end up breakin...

What I did for my 94 is I got a bumper from the local scrap yard and cut it up. I cut the sides off to give the tires more clearance and cut holes around the frame brackets so that the tow strap can easily clear the bumper. That way I dont have to worry about scratching my impecably shiny crome bumper. It wasnt hard because I have an oxy torch, but with a little effort you could probably pull it off with a hack saw and grinder.

If you go wheelin with a chevy though, all you need is a hitch in your reciever, becuase youll be pullin' the other guy out the whole time

An alternative is to take the bumper off and see if you can mount the hooks directly onto the part of the bracket that is welded at a 90 degree angle to the frame. Not sure if its strong enough though, and it leaves part of your radiator exposed, and theres that pesky rubber flap that you need to zip-tie to the grille... looks tough though..........

Like mentioned earlier, if you are serious about wheeling, you may have to look into getting a custom crossmember fabbed up. Ideally to get the hook lined up to go through the rectangular holes in the bumper. I prefer d-ring shackles instead of hooks.

A crossmember with tabs with holes to mount a d-ring would be safer, but you could still mount the hooks to the same crossmember.

I know it is not a easy way to mount hooks, but this body style is not ideal for tow hooks.

OR placing them on the frame just past the radiator support would be the easiest option, outboard on the frame.
