Hi Gary, I vote for staying with the Y-Block. It would be much less work and the 351 is becoming more and more common. It's good to look in there and see that 312. Jag
I too would stick with the Yblock, not because of the work though, I just think it is cool, and they really are pretty engines when cleaned up. If you want the 351clevland don't let the amount of work discourage you if that is what you truely want it will be worth it when you are done.
From all the feedback by everyone, I think I`ll stay with the 312ci. The only problem
I have (being the cheapskate I am) is justifying the cost of an AOD adapter to 312.
Anyway, THE 312ci is cool, getting harder to find, and as some have said, just looks good, and also has it`s own unique sound.
Thanks for every ones opinion, and those who like the 351C, I totally respect your
opinion - It`s a great engine.
Any one know of someone who sells an adapter less expensive than Brendston`s (sp.)?
Thanks again.
I feel like it's status quo for people to rip out a perfectly good workhorse like the 312 and throw in garden variety engines like 350s, 302s, 351s etc. It's too common for my tastes (it'd be one thing if you originally had a six banger). There isn't much better looking than a Y-block with a Thunderbird dress up kit and a fresh coat of red paint.
Why are you going with an AOD? I think it would behoove you to go with a C4 which has far better internal gears, and just swap to a higher ratio 9" rear if your concern is MPGs
