Smile whipped a 1500

Raced my buddies 92 chevrolet k1500 the other day. His truck has a recently rebuilt 350 that was bored 30 over and a fresh transmission with a 3.42 running gears and 31 12.50 thornbird tires. My 4x2 92 f-350 dually with a 4.10 gear and 235/85/r16 along with the stock naturally aspirated 7.3 stomped a whole in his shortbed chevy. Off the line at a stop light i jumped a truck on him. He quickly made up that little bit of lead due to my slow shifting e4od that seems like you got to let off the pedal completly for it to shift. when my truck shifted into 3rd gear at about 35 it wound all the way out to 3300 rpms and 73 mph stretching the lead to 3 truck lengths before i let out. Im pretty sure he was going to get me on the big end tho due to i was running out of gear. My truck aint that fast but it felt good to see that bowtie falling behind. And he thought his truck was fast?

Well, If that chevy had the same gears it might be more even, expecially off the line. My 95 silverado k1500 with a 350 tbi, 4l60e and 3:73 will outrun my f350 7.3 with e40d and 4:10 gears. Both trucks are complety stock with no mods (as of yet) My signifigant other has the same truck bone stock 95 chevy with 350 tbi, 3.73 and a 4l60 and it will stomp a mud hole in my 7.3. When getting on the highway at the same time, she will out run me the whole way. My thing is 3.42 and 4:10 are pritty far apart and seem unfair to compare. Not arguing but just posting my expirence with my chevys and my ford. Besides I want to bump my post numbers up a little.

Not unfair to compare 3.42 to 4.10 when the chevy weighs half as much as the Ford and burns gas. Put the 7.3 in the Chevy with 3.42's and the 350 in the heavy *** F-350 with 4.10's and see what happens.

I'll take a "slow" IDI over a "fast" 350 in a H.D. truck anytime!

My guess it would do about the same. Both engines put out 185 hp while the 350 tbi puts out 300 lb/ft torque and the 7.3 is just 60 more at 360lb/ft torque stock. While the 7.3 weighs 900lbs (almost 600 more than the 350) I think they would be fairly equal. (7.3 will probably last alot longer and is a little more fuel efficent under heavy loads)

hellonwheels, I do agree that the e40d is a slow shifter and usualy feels like the shifts are (delayed). I even have pulled my foot of the throttle some just to make it shift. I wonder why this is and how we can fix it. Are these ford tcm's programable? Also, through-out your aceleration, does if feel as if the torque conver is slipping too much.? Maby a new torque converter will solve this problem. Well yall have a great day. Its time to go to work.
