clear coat fix

A few days ago a coworker asked me if I would/could fix the paint on his car "2001 merc sable" it seems the clear coat is peeling away in certain spots. My question is where do I start. Ive done only a couple of paint jobs in the past starting with bare metal , Ive never tried to just fix or repair previous paint. What do I start with as far as sanding grit, do I fix just the few spots or the entire panel, what would you recommend as far as type of clear to apply? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When the clear coats start pealing your only option is to remove all of the loose material and repaint the area or car. You can not paint over the existing base coat it will not stick or look right at all. As you know there are re-coat windows (time) that you must hit for paint to bond. Your about 7+ years to late.

contact the manufacturer of the product you plan on using (new clear-coat)they will usually be more than helpful, as for re-coat windows...thats for subsequent coats on the same paint-job.........you do need to scuff the surface and depending on the product, sealer may have to be used (some people say use a sealer over everything)
