03 exp clunk after startup

Hi, My 03 Explorer 4.0l, A/t, makes a weird clunk just after it starts.It almost feels like in the tranny, but everthing else drives and runs normal. Has anyone else experienced this?

My '03 4.0 a/t used to shudder when first put into gear after not using the truck for over 24 hours. The whole truck would shudder and I'd get a very loud clunk. I had to leave the truck with my dealer overnight in order for it to be diagnosed. They had to reprogram the engine computer in order to solve the problem. I hope this helps.

How long ago did you have the the computer (PCM) reprogrammed?

I had the service done back in '03 a couple of months after I bought the truck.

check make a/c is off remember a/c is on in most modes except panel. If a/c is on you could be hearing in it kick in it is normal on cold start when a/c is on due to head pressure in the compressor.
