Cold air intake

I've got a 1990 F150, 302. Just wondering if anyone with a similar truck has a cold air intake on theirs. I found them in summit for around $200. Are they worth the money? Noticable differences? I got some 5" exhaust tube from work and thought about trying to make one . My truck has two throttle plates in the throttle body so I'd have to merge both intake tubes into the 5" and then put a cone filter on the end. The factory set up actually looks pretty decent. Should I try to improve? The only modifications I have done to the truck is removing the second catalytic converter and running 3" single exhaust to a Thrush muffler. Shorty headers possibly in the future. One exhaust manifold is cracked. New ones run around $90. If I can't find a used one significantly cheaper, I'll go with the $150 headers.

Thanks

The stock air intake is a real cold air intake... it draws air from outside the engine bay, what you propose may flow more but it will pull hot air only. On that motor there is nothing in front of the intake valves that is a restriction to increased power, finish upgrading the exhaust and then you have to go inside the motor to find more ponies.
