Worried!

alright so i had to change the head gaskets in my truck, everything was going fine until the garage putting it in calls me and says "uh where did you get this headgasket set? all the gaskets work except for the intake manifold gasket?" so i call up an autoparts store and order the IMG and they send me the wrong one, then the dude at the counter looks it up and says that i need a gasket from a 99 f150 on my 2000 f150...why would this be? i thought 97 - 03 was all the same? and sence this gasket was different would this mean that all my gaskets might be wrong and the garage would have to rip the engine all apart yet again? can somebody please help me out...

I just did headgaskets on 1 98 f150 (not a fun job). It was a 4.6L and they asked me for a VIN code to get the right gasket set. Since you are supplying the shop with parts you did make sure to get a new headbolt set right??

If they fit right they should be fine. How they fit only the shop will know. If coolant passages are blocked by wrong gasket it would overheat, but I would say the shop made sure they fit before they put it together. I don't like installing customer's parts because of these problems. If the shop put wrong gaskets on its their problem to deal with. If you gave them the wrong gaskets and they didnt notice or seemed to fit and they have to do job twice you might pay twice. How much money did you save by getting your own gaskets? Personally I frown upon installing parts because it leads to problems. I order wrong parts and it is my problem to deal with and make the customer happy. If customer supplies parts both parties are sometimes left unhappy. But I do hope it all works out for you and gaskets match up. The 4.6L I did calls for 12 hours labor. It is a PITA of a job so I hope the shop only has to do it once for you LOL. I wouldn't wish this job on my worst enemy.

Well depending on the engine it is either a PI or NPI. I assume it is a 4.6L since all 5.4L's should have been PI's in '99 and the gaskets would have worked. So I am guessing you go NPI 4.6L intake gaskets instead of PI gaskets, or if they are too big you got 5.4L gaskets.

I don't think you will see a boost in power unless you had your heads ported or something.

No you shouldnt notice any power increases...unless they were leaking real bad.
