Hi;
The speedometer on my 97 F-150 4x4 quit, so I replaced the sending unit and the driven gear, which was badly mutilated. The replacement worked well for a short period and then failed again. On removal, I found the gear chewed up again. When I stick my finger in the mounting hole and wiggle the drive shaft, the speedo drive gear seems to want to turn with it. No sense replacing the driven gear until I know what the problem is. Any suggestions appreciated.
thanks
Did you get the correct replacement? They come with the teeth angled both ways.
On the Mustangs, the auto and 5-speed were different and angled the opposite way.
I used the identical replacement, which has been in the truck since I got it, about 4 years ago. It's a flimsy plastic thing and the teeth are straight.
