If I could go back in time to December 2006 when I purchased my 2007 6.0 Lariat CC 4X4 the things I would do differently. I would have waited a few months and bought the V10 new style Super Duty saving 1000's of $$$$ on the gas than the diesel engine. I love my 6.0 but dont need all the power that it can give me with hindsight all I really needed was the V10 but the sales guy done a good job on me. I just paid $300 for an oil change fuel filters and tire rotation. Diesel prices are through the roof with no signs of ever coming back down again thats the main reason for writing this post. Maintenance costs on a diesel truck are so much higher than the V10. I drive my truck like it was meant to be driven and I am getting around 16.5mpg on the dash computer which has never been reset and is pretty dam close to hand calculations. I am pissed at BIG Goverment for not standing up for the people that elected them and those Oil companies who want to get 18 billion $$"s in tax exemptons. The 6.0 has been trouble free runs great but as I said the V10 would have been the truck for me but if diesel prices drop to the same as regular gas prices then maybe I did make the right decision opting for diesel.
If you don't tow 20K lbs for more than 10K miles a year...then you don't need a diesel. That's just my take on it. I love diesels, but I would never own one...
With the exception of a M35A2 with a 12V Cummins (or DT466) conversion.
I did my first oil change 4k miles ago, and added a Fumoto at that time. I anticipate my next oil change to be much cheaper. Someone said they were very easy, and they were right. I haven't done the fuel filters myself yet, but will next time. Doing these items yourself will save on maintenance costs.

I agree ... if I could do it over again I would've got a V-10. I don't drive my 6.0 near enough to justify the ownership costs/hassles. A V-10 wouldv'e covered my towing needs also .. oh well
also if you were to drive the v-10 like its meant to be driven like you do with your diesel, i can't see you getting much more than 12 mpg. lets say you have a 36 gallon tank, with 12 mpg's your looking at 432 miles. with your diesel getting 16.5 your looking at 594mpg. thats 162 more miles by the diesel just in one tank. you probably go through that many miles twice a month, thats 324 more mile in a month, and 3888 more miles a year. with diesel at $4.12 a gallon, thats 943 gallons that you are saving by having the diesel, some $3885. probably a little more than you wanted to know, or maybe something you already knew, either way i hope this helps you justify buying a diesel a little more.
changing the oil yourself on any vehicle usually saves u money. on the 6.0 PSD it is very easy and enjoyable. 4WD gives u a little to hassle over with the fuel filters but its still way easy. doing maintenance yourself is rewarding in more ways than one. do it with your buddies, dad, son, bro ...its worth the time and effort

Math is a bit skewed. That's only 235 less gallons.
Based on the national average gas is 3.299 and diesel is 3.969. Your price may vary.
At 12 mpg that is .27 per mile for gas.
At 16.5 mpg that is .24 a mile for diesel.
At .03 per mile difference it'll take 200,000 miles to break even on the intial $6000 PSD purchase price.
29 gal tank @$4.00 for diesel =$116 Gas 29x$3.20= $92.80. diff is $23.20.
12000mls per year @ 16.5mls per gal diesel = 727.27 gallons x $4 =$2909.08 a year fuel costs for diesel
12000mls per year @ 12.0mls per gal petrol = 1000 gallons x $3.20 =$3200 a year fuel costs for Gas
$3200-$2909.08= $290.92 savings for diesel Vs Gas per year.
Factor in the $5000 extra for the diesel engine and higher maintenance costs. This I think is a more realistic calculation for fuel costs.
If you really need the towing power get diesel but that V10 is an awesome truck with a proven engine. Like I said if diesel prices would come down to the same level as regular my diesel truck would be more of a keeper.
now factor in the price of diesel (,80 to 1.00 more than gas here)
I did.

While correct, my "method" is just as accurate and doesn't limit a person to a particular yearly mileage amount. The only way you can do the computation correctly is to determine the cost PER MILE for the price of fuel in your area. YMV.
The calculation can still be skewed based on what a person claims is the MPG for a given engine and truck configuration.
And as for "towing power" a 4.30 equipped V10 is not that far off the pace of a 6.4L truck. Mere hundreds of seconds. It is now the logical choice.
6 months from now, diesel could be at around $4 a gallon (like today) and gasoline might be up around $5 a gallon, you just can't predict what will happen. Just enjoy your truck and ride it out (if you can afford it).
If you can't afford it, trade in the Super Duty on a smaller vehicle.
