I posted this on the Excursion forum as well, however since this one gets more traffic and it is a “generic” 6.8L/4100 problem I posted it here.
I have a 2000 Ex (think F-250) with the 6.8L/4R100 that is having a problem, it has been into a local shop and Ford, the best they (Ford) could come up with was replacing the ECM, that was done at Ford and reflashed with the latest version of programming but the problem remains. It does not have any codes or CEL.
This may sound weird but writing down what is happening while I am driving is he easiest way for me to describe it:
1. Starting from a light with medium to heavy throttle it shifts properly.
2. When I slow down at speed, but do not come to a stop, the engine rpms drop to about 1500 rpm
3. When I try to accelerate in the 1750 and 2000 rpm it vibrates and does not up shift until I give it more gas.
Would the proper way to describe this be a delayed 1-2 shift?
Vehicle is stock except for a Gibson exhaust, it used to have a FT Valve body but that was removed as part of the troubleshooting for this problem. This did not change anything.
The vibration makes me think torque converter or clutch problem. As with all trans problems, have you had the ATF flushed and replaced with new? Where there any metal particles in the fluid?
If it's just electrical, check out your TPS and MAF. Both can wreak havoc with your transmission.
Fluid was flushed and was clean. TPS was replaced, along with coils & plugs. I was thinking it was the torque convertor too, I havent been driving the truck until I can get it in another shop to have it looked at. Would rather spend several hundred bucks on a new convertor instead of a couple of grand on a new transmission.Someone told me that the brake lights would indicate problems if the TQ was not locking up properly, do you just see if they come on or is there some specific test?
