Well as many of you know I traded a SBC 305 roller block for a 1955 F100. So far I've only taking everything apart to clean or remove rust.
I'm not planning on make a show truck, I still want it to be a TRUCK. I'm currently cruising around in a little tercel, it gets great gas mileage but I can't haul around anything.
Here's my expenses, so far.
'55 F100.............................................F REE
'89 Astro, for engine, tranny, electrical...$200
'99 V6 Vortec heads.............................FREE
Edelbrock V6 Vortec intake........................$150(from craig's list)
This is what I've so far. I need a front windshield, both door windows and a rearend. I still have the original but I want a 9".
I have a Volare IFS ready to install. Bob's f100 said the template he sells run $150. Are the priced about the same every where else? Nobody lists them on any of there web-sites.
Well I'll eventually start a photo gallery to document the build.
I would get the video from No-Limit instead of the template. It's a lot cheaper and you don't really need a template. I used the video to put a Volare under my 48 but the video is really for a 53-56 installation.
Joe Gaddy is going to burn me a copy next week. So the more I read on the template the more I'm discouraged on buying it. $150 is a lot of money to spend on something that might not work.
Speaking on spending money, just bought a 1969 9" rearend. 62 bucks at the half off sale.
Two new questions, the cab floorboard, is there suppose to be tar smeared all over it?
Secondly, I need to find the center of the front axle. The frame didn't come with it. I know the wheelbase is 110", so I figure either measure from the center of rearend forward 110 inches. OR! Find the center location of the front axle using the spring perch holes. Hmmm, I'll probably do both to verify the location.
And of course, move it one inch forward to balance the look in the wheel well.
on my 55 the front center line should line up with the frame hole where the axle snubber is or was at one time.on the bottom of frame ,the rubber bump stop mounting hole.
Jim Ray, thanks for the info. Joe Gaddy was gracious enough to send me the no limit ifs video. It shows you how to find the center line using the axle bump stop. Now it's time to work.
