Hey guys my truck has a 302 in it and for around town driving and pulling well to be nice it sucks. I know it has an auto, 3.31 gears and its a 95 f150 supercab so I'm not expecting a rocket. But I was wondering with my 90% city 10% highway driving would I better be served with a 300 I6. Theyre indestructable, strong, and got gobs of torque. Exactly what I want without the $4 a gallon diesel price What are your opinions on it. Not to mention a f150 with a flatbed and a nice 3" stack would look cool to me. Thanks again.

sounds like youre already set on a truck with a 300 in it. so go for it. from what it sounds like, you never break 50 mph and you pull heavy-enough loads to make a 302 struggle. thats where the 300 shines.
either motor woud benefit from a 3.73 or 4.10 rear gear if youre 90/10 city/highway. consider a rear gear swap on your current truck. it would definitely help.
are you sure your trucks in a good state of tune? pulling with a 302 is one thing, but for "around town driving" im surprised you think it sucks. is it bad gas mileage thats disappointing you? good running, properly driven 300s and 302s usually do about the same on gas anyway, so dont expect a huge improvment there.
ill let everyone else give you the song and dance of why the 300 is gods gift to man
I agree that my truck needs better gears and I'm sure it needs a tune up badly. It has 193K miles on it. But the reason for the 300 is that my dad had a 63 GMC 2500 with the 305V6 and with a 4spd and 4.11 gears. With a 16'trailer and 2 tons of gravel it would literally startoff uphill in gear and never choke. While the engines are different the principle is the same. Torque plus gears makes power in trucks. By the way my truck gets about 16mpg highway and I havent checked around town lately.
