429 or 460

how do you tell the difference between the 429 and the 460
thanks for any info

I believe the blocks are the same, the stroke (crank) is different. As far as I know, the only way to tell would be to pull the oil pan and check the casting # on the crank. If it begins with 2Y or 3Y it should be a 460. If it begins with 4U it's probably a 429. Here's a good website to double check 460ford.com :: Index.

Crank and pistons are all that is different.
