I have a 78 4 wd regular cab shortbed with a 300 and a 4 speed. I got a good deal on a set of split manifolds off a 300 fuelie, what i am wondering is how yall hooked them up. I am wanting to go back into a single 2 1/2" pipe. Pictures would be great help. Also do i need to put a plate on the bottom of the stock intake where the log manifold bolted to the intake? Thanks in advance.
So i got bored and put them on. Small mod to the rear manifold they bolted right up. Some fabrication on a Y pipe and all is good 2 1/2 inch pipe into a flowmaster and its all good. I have pics of the Y pipe if anyone wants to see how i made it.
Pics would be nice. I'll be fabricating a new y-pipe for mine soon also. You don't need a plate to bolt to the bottom of your intake for the motor to run, however you may have a drivebility issue when the weather's cold. The heat from the exhaust warms the intake which helps to vaporize the fuel so it burns properly. I've seen some kits use an adapter plate on the bottom of the intake and just tap into the heater hose so coolant/antifreeze warms the intake.
This is how i made my Y pipe. I ordered some flanges for 2 1/4" pipe for the Y then hooked it too 2 1/2" pipe then i hooked a flowmaster on it with a turndown. It sounds pretty good. Nice to work at a muffler shop with the right tools. BTW catco makes a Y pipe for the fuelie trucks i wasnt sure if it would bolt up and clear well. The catco# is PK-1, it looks alot like how i made mine but my cost on it was almost $100, couldn't see spending that much for a might work kinda deal, since that is about what the whole set-up cost me total manifolds to muffler.
