hey, what is the best way to go to find a 351w. should i look for a truck with one or should i go to a junk yard. or maybe look for a rebuilt one. How much money am i looking at and what is the cheapest way to go.

I bought a 79 cougar for $200.00 and it had a 351w in it. I swapped it in and all I had to buy was a rear sump oil pan set-up ($60.00) and a set of headers or manifolds to fit.
You get what you pay for, I learned that one recently. I spent 45 minutes today talking with an ASE certified master block specialist, and even he (someone who makes a living rebuilding engines) said that Ford and GM factory engines are the best way to go nowadays, based on hassle, cost, performance, and longevity. I was looking forward to building my own engine, but when it comes down to it, if you don't have the specialty tools, you have to pay someone who does, and if you're planning on keeping for more than 100,000 miles, you have to get it balanced, so then you have to find a competent machinist who has the right equipment, etc. If it was the beginning of the summer, it might be worth it, but I'll have approximately 3/4 weekend to get the whole thing done, so the Ford short block is the easiest way to go. Check out the Motorsport webpage, I know they still do 351w's too. TK
but whatever you do, don't buy it from any parts store, remanufactured engines are one example of where you actually get less than what you paid for (learned that one the hard way, blown head gasket @ 18,000 miles, rod knock @ 21,000 miles)!

bulldog77, it depends on what you are doing, and what you are working on if you want swapping details. I had a 302 in my truck, so unbolting the car mounts and bolting on the 302 truck mounts is all I had to do. Or you can go down to the store and buy new mounts. If your truck originally had a six, it's a little more involved.
