I have been looking at lift options and seen the tortion key to add up to 2.5 inches in the front and the sping spacers that add 2.0 inches in the rear they say that this will alow me to put 33s on my 99 ford expedition 4x4 5.4 trition v8 . Does this help or is it a waste of time and money?I am in need of your help thanks everyone
The torsion twist is free, and takes 3 minutes to do. I got about 1.5 to 2 inches on the front without turning them all the way. And I just ordered some coil spacers for my rear coils to do the same thing as you want to do. I want 33's.
I've read that you can fit 285/75/16's (which are equivalent to roughly a 33 x 11.5) without doing the TT and spacer lift, but I think a little space between the tire and your fender looks good.
You can see in this pic that there is definatley room for 33's. Tires pictured are my 255/70/16's I still have on right now. But hopefully this weekend I will be getting my 33's on.
kslhol: i have an 00 eb and i turned the torsion bars all the way up and didnt get 2" what is your ride height to the top of your front wheel well? i got measurements from anouther site and i couldnt match them.
any one know how many inches you get out of truning the key on the bar one notch?
I know it's really simple, but how bout some how to on the torsion bar mod. Do you need to have front off ground? How hard is it to keep it level? Will the front need to be realigned? If the Expy is taken for an alignment will the tech change the torsion setting? Thanks
Dont know how much you get per turn.My buddy put the air tool on it and let it rip.Only on there maybe 5-8 seconds. You do not have to have the front end off of the ground. You will see it raise as you turn it.As far as making sure mine was level,I used a measuring tape and put it on the edge of the running board.Made sure both sides matched. The alignment prob would be a good idea.I havent done mine yet but it does pull a little to the right. The tech shouldnt change anything, when you get it done let them know you had the torsion bars turned.Heads up,some people will say thats not a good idea or you shouldnt do that.Ive had two Expys now with the torsions turned and no issues.
if you dont jack up the front make sure you drive it around the block to let the suspension settle. i did mine on the ground and after i drove it it came up a bit. the ground helps hold the tires apart ( by lifting it your pulling the tires closer together).
taking measurements off of something not "solid" isn't the best idea. find a point on the frame and go from there. the running boards can get hit, stepped on, and adjusted.
being that it pulls check your measurements. even if you can find a spot from the frame to the control arm. and make sure its level. seems like that side is low
any time you do anything with adjusting a suspension its really importnant to get an alignment. but being most are doing the bar adjustment cause its free. an expensive alignment doesnt fit in. take very good measurements before and after if you start off with one side higher by a 1/4" end with a 1/4" different. most say to count the rotations. thats a pain. you can also measure the bolt on each side. mine was messed up from the start i had a full bolt on one side and half on the other. but it pulled to the right. now its straight.

Just went out and measured for you. From ground to wheel well is 37.5 inches. This measurement is going to change this weekend when I put taller tires on. I am currently running 255/70/16 (about a 30 inch tall tire) with not much tread. Going to 265/75/16's. (roughly 32's)
The measurement that shouldn't change is the distance from center of wheel to the top of wheel well which is 24 inches. I wish I would have measured it that way before I did the twist to give you a better idea.
Hope this helps.
The silly way I measured was from top of tire to wheel well, and it went from just under 8 inches to 9 3/4 inches. So like I said roughly between 1.5 and 2 inches.
But as I said depending on how you measure, and what kind of tire you are running, your results may vary.

Reason: spelling.
thanks. yeah if i get time this weekend i might mess with the key and turn it one notch. post up some pics after you get the tires. that sorta teh way i wanna go. i tow my jeep and i want the exp to be a nice rig with a roof rack and lights ect. im toying with the idea of a bush bar like the ones in fast and furios 3. but i need some other mods first.
The torsion twist is quite easy: lay under the b pillar and you will see the round bar coming from the front. follow it back and youll see an arm with a bolt. on the passenger side and another bolt across from it coming down on the drivers side. if you loosen the bolt the front of your truck comes down if you tighten it, it goes up. I sprayed some WD-40 on the bolt about 10 minutes before I attempted the twist. Use a 18mm socket.
I bought the spacers from ebay. mcmotorsportsoutlet $50 plus shipping. Or just do a search for expedition rear coil spacers on ebay.
I'm new at this twisting gig, can it be done with a breaker bar? I dont have air tools, but have alot of nice hand tools, I found the rear spacers on ebay, 50 bucks, not bad, I wouldnt mind running some 285's and still have a little space.....
