35-308-8 - How is it?.....

I just purchased a CompCam 35-308-8 today to put into a EFI 331 stroker that I am building. I will be running stock heads (E5s. exhaust ports cleaned up). MAF-A9P Computer, 19# injectors, AOD tranny. This will live in an 89 F150.
Is anyone running this combo? If so how is it?
Is the cam a good choice?

Ha... you should be asking those questions before buyng parts. You can relax though... it's a good choice. The combo will certainly benefit from better heads, even professionally ported stock heads are holding that motor back.

actually. I have read alot of threads and the cam has been recommended alot but I never hear the results of the advice. Also I used comps camquest software and it said that this cam was a great fit and I called comp and out of the 8 different guys I talked to. One of them advised me of the 308-8.

There are a number of smog legal heads on the market, everything from the Ford GT40's to World Products Windsor series to the Edelbrock Performer and I think even AFR has a smog legal head. All these are upgrades over the stock heads, some are major upgrades. The beauty is, you don't even have to use smog legal heads to retain the EGR, all you have to do is use one of the externally plumbed Ford EGR valves like those on the trucks and run a tube to the exhaust header... similar to the way the 5.8 is plumbed.

For heads I would go with old school non aluminum Dart windsor jr's. They flow as good as their aluminum counter part with about 25% of the cost used.
