I have a few qustions about my 302 the i have just gotten my hands on. It is out of a 89 or 90 f150. My first qustions is will the moter fit in my 93. I think it will but i just need to be shure. I am looking to get lots of low end power out of it. I was thinkin about 347 stroker kit but i dont know what this will do for the low end power. Anthing that would help me with the rebuild would be helpful. One last qustion is how long will the 347 last. I know it take out of the life of the moter but i dont know how much. I have a 93 f150 with an AOD.
Thanks All Rudy
The only real problem with the 347 is the oil ring location interferring with the piston pin increasing the chance of oil and compression blow-by. Coast Performance does include a piston in their 347 kit that uses thinner rings moved closer to the top of the piston so this problem is eliminated. Properly built, a 347 should last as long as any small-block V8.
However, it's very easy to get a kit that isn't perfect, and then you'll have piston slap within 40,000 miles. If you really want that stroke, the 351W has larger mains, and longer rods to better accomodate the 3.5" stroke. I know you can build a good 347, but a 351W of equal quality will last much longer, and make a bunch more torque. I'm a 302 guy, and at one point I thought of doing the stroker thing, but I've never heard of a 347 lasting more than 40,000 miles. If you wanna be real bad, get a 4" stroker crank for a 351. 393 ci of small block power! It'll probably be cheaper than buying a quality 347. TK
