I didn't mean the u joint its self the two pieces that go on the shaft also. That whole assembly without the shaft itself.

Heya Mil1ion-awesome posts btw! I was curious of the pic of your steering shaft, never seen one with what looks to have a slip yoke? for the dentsides. I thought it might be one from a 80's up truck? I wondered if they would work... I also wanted to note that my ol 74' F-100 had an actual small greaseable u-joint right off the column, the joint yokes are welded to the shaft and appears factory. I replaced the greaseable assy. with one from a 76' with the normal style joint and the non-rag coupler? I did keep that odd setup, never seen one again since. One day I will take it apart and see if I can revive it, and hopefully get a digital camera.

I would check with Dennis Carpenter Ford parts or Blue Oval truck parts.

There is another place I hear guys on here get them from as well. I think that they are all a bit spendy, but, it does give you another possible choice to pick from? They're website is: Flaming River Steering Components. Good luck!

sounds like he has the one like on my '76 that has 2 universal joints and not the rag joint on the steering box end
replaced mine with the Flaming River several years ago

BORGESON U-JOINTS#

this is the one i used on my 77 its bolt in. if you have the short shaft like on 78-79's you have to cut it down.

Dennis, i have NEVER seen that shaft before... I've owned 7, 73-79's and none of them had that shaft. I've also parted out dozens more and none have ever had a shaft like that. is that an f150 part? all the trucks I've had or torn apart were f250's and 350's.

Thanks 77f2504by4, that looks pretty dang close to what my steering shaft looks like. Read the FAQ about the highboy and it seems i do not have one. my truck sticker says it was made 08/77 and the vin# is Z08903. Guess the old girl is gonna have to wait till next payday to get fixed. The steering is REAL loose in her, about 1/4 turn worth of play at the steering wheel.
