I use the Michelin on an F350 and I like them. They last well and they're reasonably quiet. They are far better than the stock Firestones in the rain, haven't tried snow. I had some Goodyears on a Chevy Suburban a few years ago, and they were almost dangerous in the rain. I don't remember the model, so I can't compare. All I remember is they were factory supplied on new 3/4 ton Suburbans in 1997. If you are near a Sears or NTB, you may want to price their version of the LTX M/S. They have a "special" model, but it's exactly the same and can cost less if on sale.
Michelin, all the way!! I've had several sets of LTX's on different vehicles
over the years. They are quiet, wear well, and good snow traction.
I spent a few weeks in Hartford with my 86 E-150,and it never went sideways on me,even though it did spin a little sometimes. Great traction, and handling was amazing, even on a 5300 pound van,,,,,,98
Goodyear all the way if you have 17" rims.
Why, lasted 60,000 miles on Stock RT/S.
Upgraded to AT/S, far beter in the mud and rain.
Michelin looked like a car tire to me.
Also AT/S are stock on newer F150's
I put Michelin LTXs on my '99 F150 the minute I drove it off the lot. I had the same tire on my '97 Ranger and my wife's '97 Explorer LTD, and before that, her Pathfinder. I agree that they are reasonably quiet. They are terrific in the snow. On our Pathfinder, it made the difference between ALWAYS having to be in 4X4 to come up our lane in the winter and only having to be in 4X4 sometimes. I recommend them highly.
I would go with the Michelins.I had some Goodyear wrangler RTs on my '98 F-150 and they had no traction at all on wet roads.I hydroplaned with less then a hundred miles on them.Michelins make less road noise and seem to get better mileage. On the '98 F-150 I own now I have Cooper HTR's.They are great on the highway, but really suck if you get offroad.I plan on getting a set of Cooper ATR's in a couple of months.Hope this helps you.
I like the Michelins. My E350 was used, came with the stock tire, and I didn't really like them (but they were old), bought the Micheline XLTs (at CostCo at a hughe savings) and we have loved them. Do have to rotate the things though or you end up with some pretty bad 'rough' wear on the front. Moving them to the back smooths them out while doing in the front ones. I don't know if it is the 'aggresive' tread on the tire or a 'feature' of being a Ford Van. I am told by several 'older and wiser' Ford mechanics that this is a comon feature of being a Ford, even when properly in alignment.
If your van has an I-beam suspension that's expected. Mine tears up tires too. They always seem to be out of alignment visually unless they're loaded,,,,98
i know goodyear put out a special tire for fords 96 and older, never need rotation cuz the rts chopped out due to the front frame design. on my 99 i have ats on my 17 inch rims.. got two flats already in the big rain gaps and they are slippery then a banana in the rain.
