Just installed 3 pillar pod with ISSPRO gauges. egt drops to 100 deg at idle very quickly and does not go above 900 no matter how long as I have my foot in it.
I have a stock PSD, auto, 4" exhaust, no cat or muffler, & Tymar intake.
hmm my best guess would be a miss in the cylinder that it is located by. but you say it runs great. that definitely sounds low to me. i would wait until someone more exp. comes along. but if it wasn't really running all that great i would definitely go with a miss in that cylinder.
my dads 6. uh oh idles at like 300. i dont have gauges on mine. but 100 seems really low. but unless he has some magical way of drastically reducing egts it should go over 900 trying to dent the floorboard....
yup mine idles at 250ish right after start up and after driving if ya let it idle down (i always do) it will it will get down to about 300. my guess is bad gauge or bad connections. check for leaks around where you put it in
Did you shorten the leads form the thermocouple? They are designed to read the difference in amperage in the bimetal strip at the tip in milliamps. The leads have a specific length the gauges are calibrated to. If the length is changed, they will never read acuarately. Just a thought. Some guys shorten them to avoid having all that loose wire hanging around. It may be just a short or loose connection like dieselrod says too.
Did you mount the probe into the exhaust manifold or into the downpipe? Mounting it into the downpipe will tell you if you are going to cook your turbo, 1250 for a short time is what I have always heard, as somebody else stated in another post. That is with the probe mounted in the turbo downpipe. I have a buddy that bought an Edge system for his 99SD and it wants it mounted in the manifold so it knows when to defuel the engine, he has since added another probe in the downpipe to monitor his turbo, he is running stacked chips and tows a 12000lb fifth wheel and his manifold temps go over 1400 and his turbo temps are around that 1250 mark and no problems.
I had a CAT mechanic friend of mine tell me that 1250 at the Turbo is the only thing to worry about. So far that has been my experience with the Pickups and the Peterbilts I drive.
Well, the folks at Diesel Performance (wher I bought the gauges)talked with ISSPRO and the mfg of the thermocouple. ISSPRO says it is probably a faulty amplifier box. The thermocouple mfg says they very very rarely see a bad thermocouple and that is why they have a lifetime warranty. They are shipping a replacement amplifier box. I'll post if it fixes the problem.
