2001SuperCrew w/towing issue

I have an above 4x4. Asked to tow stuff for my kids Pop Warner football, a dual axle trailer. The Trans seems to tug/pulse when towing and especially @ 40mph. I slowed down and stopped trailering but wondering: is it a trailer issue; trans issue; hitch issue. Please advise, I've waited too long for this beautiful truck and will be disappointed if its a trans issue.
