Wiper Blades

Who makes some of the best wiper blades for cars? PIAA Super Silicon Blades work well? What about the new RainX Latitude blades?

I've bought expensive and bought cheap. What I've decided is buying cheap is the ticket and then replacing every six months. For me, living in South Texas, the expensive blades didn't hold up any better than the cheapies so it was like throwing money away.

Same here. I buy wiper blades twice a year, right about now, just before the heavy spring rains hit, and then again in the late fall before the winter rains hit. It doesn't seem to matter what kind they are, they're all worn out the same by the end of the season. We do get a lot of rain around here ya'know. The cheap ones seem to clear the water just as good as the expensive ones.

Yep. Good old Anco blades every 6 months. Those "designer" blades don't last any longer on my cars.

One caveat. If the windshield is OEM and the vehicle is over about 5 years old, no wiper is going to last more than about 3 months. Modern glass is prone to pitting and "sandblasting". Look close and you will see the pitting. That pitting causes smearing in light rain. The only remedy is a new windshield. Every used car that I buy gets a new windshield very early on. The difference is amazing.

I have 2 suggestions.

1. Use the "winter blades" all year, that little rubber that surrounds the metal keeps gunk out and especially helps in winter.

2. i ALWAYS us RainX wiper fluid. It really works well. You dont use your wipers as much, and in the winter, the ice/snow does not stick as much. This is a way better investment in an extra buck a gallon than expensive blades.

I agree, just replace every six months. However; I had an issue where my blades were jumping and sqeeking. Tried several brands including the Icons. I finally ended up buying tripledge from JAMAK. Got them at Walmart. Lifetime warranty, and they are as quiet as can be. That's my story. Cheers

I agree witht he Bosch. Each time you wash you vehicle, wipe your blades clean with a towel. Keeping your blades clean will keep the windshield cleaner as well as enhance the life of your blades.

+1.

Don't have 'em on the Expy yet, but have had great experience with them on my '05 Outback XT. Definitely worth the coin.

Yes from me too. Have the RainX's and haven't looked back. Last a while for me even when i was back in sandy New Mexico dealing with all the crappy conditions over there. Now here in Cali they work just as well.

I have tried all the brands mentioned except the RainX. The desert choose up these blades and I usually have to replace them every four months or so.

I personally am a fan of the PIAA blades. Never need to Rain-X with them and they're good for a year. I use them on my girlfriend's Nissan Altima also and she loves them.

I always replace the whole blade assembly.
I never use refills...replace them about twice a year with what ever is cheapest.
I tend to abuse the wipers - they should be cleaned about once a week with alcohol.
