Driveshaft vibration
I'm having a vibration with my 2001 F350 twd, supercab, 8 ft bed. I know it's in the driveshaft and just had it rebuilt and balanced a couple of weeks ago. The vibration basically moved up 10 miles an hour from what it was before. This is the second time in six month's I've had the shaft balanced, this last time was by a place in Detroit that make all the Nascar shafts so I would venture to say the shaft is indeed balanced like it should be. I believe the mid shaft bearing is improper in that it is short from the center of the shaft to the bracket it bolts to. Can anyone give me that dimension to check on my truck, sure seems like it originally had a big (taller) bearing in it but I can't find any info on what the distance should be on the height of the bearing. If it has a short bearing on the shaft it would throw off the U joint geometry causing the vibration.

Some of the trucks that were built in Mexico had the rear blocks installed backwards. There's also a memo about the midship bearing being able to shim it down by as much as 3/4" to reduce the vibrations, if you run empty a lot. HTHs Lee
