I have been looking for a reason why I am suddenly getting a ckp code on my f150. I have changed it from a 95 to a 96 ecm.
I am sure that the ckp sensor is part of the distributor, and sure enough when I look up tha part number for a 95 it is diffirent for a 96. Ford doesen't know what the diffirence is. I think it might just be the gear. One might be steel and one cast.
You get that code because you don't have crank position sensor.. I bet. That's an OBD2 thing if I'm not mistaken, there is a little sensor down next to the crank pulley on the passenger side.. something you can probably install without too much hastle.
ordered it today, will be in tommorrow. No timing ring on the harmonic balancer to activate it though. It should change the code though, if that is what the problem is. $200+ for the balancer w/ ring. Hope it is something else, but I guess we shall see.
I got the sensor, but I don't have a pigtail for it. Got a friggin huge box of connectors and don't have this one for some reason. Any idea on where to get it? Still lookin for a balancer with a tone ring too.
ok, this little thing is friggin rediculous. I allready paid for the sensor $30 + the pigtail $10 and I soldered it in. Well I still need a balancer $100+ assuming I can find one. I also need to change my timing cover I guess, since there is nowhere to mount this stupid sensor!!! Ok, I am geting extrememly frustrated. I do not want to drop the stupid oil pan to change a timing cover just for a friggin sensor, especially one that I am not 100% sure will fix my problem. For all this time and money I am wondering if I can just disable the thing with a tweecer.
Any info on this?
The Tweecer will cost you lots more so it's not very cost effective, and you have other options with the OBD2 system(SCT). You should start shopping at a junkyard for these type parts.. save you a fortune.
I appreciate you help, but I have been to a ton of junkyards, and not finding much of anthing. Hell a junkyard up here can't keep a vehicle for over 3 weeks, especially with the price of scrap so dang high. What are my other options? I am thinking about getting a tweecer anyway, just for future upgrades among other things, so I was wondering if it would do what I was asking. I see that you have one, so I was hoping you would be able to say "yeah, it's cake" lol.
I looked at the sct website, dosen't look like you can enable or disable ecm features like EGR or rear HEGO. I would like the ability to do that as well. Hell mabye the dealership can do a custom flash.
On a side note, if I am to change my timing cover, I might as well change my timing set and put in a new cam. Any recomendations? I was thinking an x303.
Could you make a small "L" bracket & use longer bolts that would bolt to the pan rail & get you in the neighborhood of the balancer in order to hold your sensor?
