Bottom line is the fuel pumps are different, the exhaust valves and seat are different and the injectors are different only in they are made to flow more fuel.
Oh and there is a little electrical device that keeps the fuel level card in the tank clean.

Can you provide proof, chapter and verse of the information you posted?
Putting aside what will work in what I would not use the E-85 due to it knocking up food costs. This is off topic but I noticed you were from Fargo MisterCMK. I love the Fargo/Moorhead area. I would leave Vegas to live there if jobs were available and no Winter!
Boy, I take a day off to actually do some work, and come back here to see what reply's I got on my question.....and geez, I had know idea my post would spark such debate. It’s good to see though. I've learned a lot from reading the posts.
As for my original question, I’m beginning to come to the conclusion that E85 is not worth running. I just filled up and calculated my MPG. I got only 10MPG on this last tank full. I lost 4MPG from the last time I filled up with regular fuel. The cost difference was only .55/gallon, so I don't think that is enough savings to warrant the switch. Plus, there is a new report saying that the benefits of E85 are over blown anyway.
Thanks for the all of the reply’s and spirited debate.
I don't have near as much rubber line as my wife's,and it's a different material than hers. It's something that was made to withstand the corrosive effects of E85. Now it seems like you want to get in an argument. Argue with someone else. I already said that this dead horse didn't need beat anymore, and I mean it. I'm done replying/talking on this thread. If you want to run E85, and already are, yay for you. May you have many happy miles. When your ride breaks down, and Ford voids any extended warranty for having E85 in a non-FFV, suck it up.
I would like to see some solid proof of your claims.

I love it up here as well. I grew up in the Twin Cities and like it up here way more than I did the cities.
They have the standard 5.4 3v and the FFV 5.4 3v, which is a no charge option. The window sticker will tell you which one the vehicle has. I bought one with the FFV option. Not that I intend on using E85, but you never know.
Now currently in the Denver Metro area, 85 octane is running $3.70-$3.75 while I have a good E85 station I frequent that is still saling E85 for $2.35, they blend their own fuel and only use CO based Ethanol. That's roughly $1.40 savings per gallon and a $42 savings over a 30 gallon tank. 4 fill ups in a month could save me $168. Even when I run 87/93 octane (never run 85), I still have to fill up 4 times a month.
Always have and probably always will change my oil at 3K miles, so I have no problem with the increased changes. I'm actually taking the truck in next Tue for a change at the dealer. $42 including tax for a full service oil change (semi-synthetic) and tire rotation.
F0rdzTuff:
I got those same black Weathertech floorliners for my '06. They work wonders and are one of the best investments I could have ever made. They wash off easy, dry quick and the the carpet is like new. You'd never know I've owned the truck for almost 2yrs. My wife wants me to get a set for her '02 Altima.
EDIT: I too have wondered about using a Tuner while running E85. Wonder if any manufacturer is looking into this. Any insight people have, let us know.
If you haven't already, read your owners manual about using E85. There are increased oil change intervals and Ford recommends using a tank of gasoline every 5k milles. Not sure what the long term affects would be using E85 all of the time. I'll stick with gas, but its' nice knowing I can use E85 if I need arises.
I was concerned about this comment so I pulled out my '06 F150 manual and here is what it says verbatum.
"If you operate your vehicle 50% or more of the time on ethanol, you should follow a different maintenance schedule. See the Scheduled Maintenance Guide for more information."
So here is the only item under the Scheduled Maintenance Guide for Use of E85 50% of the time or greater (flex fuel vehicles only).
"Every 3,000 miles or 3 months - Change engine oil and replace oil filter"
Nothing stated that you must fill with regular unleaded gasoline every 5K miles. Can you provide any documentation to this? Not saying you're wrong, just haven't heard/seen this before.
Now it does say they will not warranty any vehicle damage caused by the use of ethanol in a non-FFV vehicle.

My 2008 Manual says verbatim on page 364 "If you operate your vehicle 50% or more of the time on ethanol, you should follow a different maintenance schedule. In addition to this it is also recommended to fill the tank with regular unleaded gasoline once every 3000 miles (4,828 km). See scheduled maintenance information for more information."
It also says "It is best not to alternate repeatedly between gasoline and E85. If you do switch fuels, it is recommended that you add as much fuel as possible-at least half a tank. Do not add less than 5 gallons (18.9 L) when refueling. You should drive the vehicle immediately after refueling for at least 5 miles (8 KM) to allow the vehicle to adapt to the change in ethanol concentration."
Both of those paragraphs are in the 2008 owners manual on page 364. Hope it helps!!

Reason: frickin' typo

My manual only goes to page 336 so I wonder if this info was added for 07 and/or 08 models. I'll have to look into the every 3K miles portion. I always refill the tank at 1/4 , so the 5 gallon limit isn't an issue. Thanks for the FYI.
