Are you all simple? You must be if you don't know what a trackback is...It's really not hard to understand, in fact, it's so easy I'm not going to bother to tell you what it is...I'll wait for someone else to explain it to you dolts...
I'm not a blog person, so maybe this will mean more to the people that are...
Here is my take on it. Trackback, pingback, and refback are like a footnote to where you got your information from (or are commenting on) and will create a notation on the page you put as the trackback. Trackback will only 'ping' the site you list, whereas pingback and refback will actually create a link to your page on the referenced page (make sense ). This is where the bloggers come in as it creates a post on the blog sites with links.
Let's say you get information from a place and want to show credit. You could use trackback for the link to the info. Or, if you read something in a blog and want to comment about it on your site, you would trackback to the original site and someone would be able to follow the links.
To me, this is used to create a spiderweb type effect between a lot of sites.
Sometimes when you see a post on somebody's blog that you like, it's enough just to leave a comment on the other blog about that issue. But what if you've got something to say about the issue that you'd like to share with readers of your own blog? If you do post to your blog, you have to go and leave a comment in the other blog if you want the people there to know about your own blog entry.
This is where trackback comes in. Using trackback, you can automatically notify another blog about your new entry and a link to your entry will appear in that blog's list of trackback pings. Now visitors to the other blog will be able to come to your blog.
The funny thing about this to me is that if the site you put in the trackback area is not using trackback software, nothing happens. They have to be 'trackback enabled' to know you did anything...
Hope it means something to someone... And if I am wrong, you are free to tell me I have no clue and call me an idiot...
Uhh........yea. I don't think I really need to know. I'm sure you're correct but I still don't get it. Sounds kind of circular and it's making me dizzy.

That's how I felt after I read a few sites on it and typed that out...
