I doubt it will lower the resale any more than the reduced cost of not buying...at least not significantly. As for getting tired of it, that depends on the type of driving you do. If you do a lot of city/rush hour driving I could understand not wanting to have a manual. One thing though is that the manuals have been showing 2-3mpg better fuel economy I beleive.

You either like manual trannys or you don't. I love mine, but I don't do any city driving at all. Best advice you can get is to go and find a 6-speed and drive it. Don't listen to anyones opinion but your own. Resale value is about $2k less, well.... because you didn't pay extra for the auto, but the manual is also less costly to maintain.

Ohh yea, the mileage is better too. I got 19.6 mpg in my dually this morning going 65 mph.

Then you should love the manual. I tow a lot too and I prefer to be able to tell my truck what to do, and not the other way around.

Go Manual

Manual is the only way to go if you are alive, enjoy driving your truck, want 15% better mileage, want to be in control of what is going on in your truck, better way to tow, and better resale value as you have on one to compete with. With an Auto they are all over the place. And last but not least you can save well over a $1,000 on your purchase price. No disadvantage at all unless you are physically handicapped. And best of all a whole lot more fun to drive and is the ultimate in portraying the trucker image.

If your a control freak like myself, nothing but the manual will do. I prefer to shift my gears when I want to and not let a computer decide what gears best when. I've had 7 ford trucks, 4 of them were diesels, and loved the manuals they had in them.

I love a manual, but only in a car. All my trucks are autos. All my cars are manuals.

got taught how to drive a manual and haven't owned an auto since then, granted that's not too many years ago. all the newfangled autos all seem to shift funny to me, but my left foot likes having fun while driving, too. almost crashed an auto a couple weeks ago, went to stop while backing and left foot hit the floor, forgot to just hit the brake...

anyhow, if you like manuals, go with it! it's good to see some people around who still like rowing their own. only time i MIGHT buy an auto is in a light 1/2T pickup.

I have a 2000 w the 6speed and was wondering if the new 6.4 makes that same off idle grunt as the 7.3 does. Also if the clutch is the same, feel?

I can let the clutch out with out any throttle in second ( the one marked "1" on the stick ) and get moving easily and I have the 3.73 gears.

Agree with 66stang351. owned manuals on al my previous trucks. Went with an auto on my 450 for my wife to help drive sometimes towing. Like the auto, but if I had to do it over again with the better fuel milage I would go with the manual. Just found the manual taking off and getting up through 2nd gear was more work comparison to driving a car like my Firehawk. Resale might even be a little better with better fuel milage comparison to a couple of years ago. I noticed the auto seems to hold the truck back mty, because the transmission is so heavy duty. Manuals are going to be a growing force to be reconed with.
