Positive Crankcase ventilation
I'm trying to figure out how my PCV system should be setup. The motor is not native to the truck. its an 85 351W with 2 barrel carb. As far as I can tell competely stock. Currently there is a PCV valve located on the rear of the passenger side. It connects to below the Carb. The PCV line on the front of the driver side, connects into the filter in the breather.
When the truck was purchased, it had a "standard" L shaped PCV Valve with only 1 place to hook up a line. The replacement part that was recommended for an 85 351W has a large connection, and a smaller one on top. It came with a plug to plug the top connection. Not seeing any lines to hook to, I plugged it. I'm constantly blowing oil up through the driver side valve cover and into my breather (and Carb).
Playing with the system, I find that should I remove the plug from the smaller connection on the PCV valve a) There is an annoying sucking sound as it sucks b) My other end stops smoking altogether. Should this smaller connection, also the size of a vacum line be connected anywhere ? There is a 3 tee connector just behind the engine on the firewall, where the valve for the breather plugs into...Perhaps there ?
My Haynes manual, which doesn't show HOW to connect the lines, does show a line running to a Evaporativ Valve. Don't ask me what that is. The motor currently does not have an EGR, and I don't think it ever has. I'm hoping somebody can explain where and if this line should be connected, if not maybe scan in a factory PCV setup for this motor ?
