trans problem

i have a 2001 f250 v8 gas engine automatic. when ever i accelerate the truck up to a crusing speed (around 40-50 mph) i get a grinding noise in the middle of one of the shifts especialy when the truck is in over drive. what do you think the problem is? how can it be fixed?

It sounds like what happend to my truck turns out it was the torque convertor slipping making a grinding noise, pullling a load or under acceleration. Put a new one in and it drives great now.

Is there any way to test a converter? I used to hear that you could lightly press the brakes while driving at a constant speed and it should cause the converter to disengage. I tried this on my truck and nothing happened. Is there some other way to check it?
