Have had a problem with my 1994 B-2300 pickup for a while now. In the winter, when the temperature hits below zero fahrenheit, I plug my truck in for obvious reason. I often have trouble starting it, though, when it is plugged in. The engine will turn over a fire up for a second and then choke off and die no matter what I do. After cranking it for a long time (and destroying my starter), it eventually catches. There is no problem when it is not plugged in except for the damage not plugging in causes to the engine and the wear on the battery (caused in any case). At the same time, the fuel gauge has read zero for a while. The fuel gauge used to freeze in winter (alongside starting problems) and work properly in summer but it is now useless. Can these two problems both be related to a drop in fuel pump performance? Fuel filter, spark plugs are new and there is no water in the fuel lines.
