The Marines have been around for 230+ years and they will be around in 2 more when you turn 18. Be Patient. The USMC more than any other branch is about honor. You can practice that now by honoring your father and mother and abiding by their wishes while you are under their roof/authority. Your time will come. I wouldn't worry about signing to get delayed entry. Focus on the task at hand -your studies, and nail the ASVAB. All of the above will make you more valuable to the Corps and once you turn 18, go for it! Your folks will come around in due time.

Not only do I think the military is great experience for any young person...in my opinion everyone should be required to serve 2 years. I think many of the problems facing our country today would be solved by such service. Military service has a way of helping you see beyond yourself or put another way "get over yourself". I commend your decision to serve.

My mother isn't really fond of the idea....and my Dad.... he didn't even want to talk about it. He just kind of "shut down" on me....got real aggitated and mad. I don't want to make my parents mad (I really want them to be proud of me)...but I really want to join some branch of the armed services. I just don't know what to do!!! What do you guys think?

P.S.: By the way....since I'm 16....the recruiter said I could join the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) at 17, which would help me get into better shape before shipping off to Parris Island. If I do join....do you guys think I should join the DEP or just wait 'til I'm 18 and go straight to basic?

Thanks in advance guys!!!
Wait till 18
